AQUARIUM AND CARING

Aquariums are the greatest and one of the most beautiful man made creations.A good aquarium will give a great pleasing for the eyes and mind .A natural looking aquarium will never let your eyes to go out of the sight .so i prefer every home a good looking healthy aquarium which will help you to relax from tensions and other problems.so if possible try a same one in your home and notice the difference in your moods and feelings .Here in this blog i am trying to have some things about caring and setting an aquarium .

For setting an aquarium there are mainly five important stages

1. To set the bottom part




2. Filters and air pumps




3. decoration




4. plants




5. lighting




6. fishes
   

First in the bottom we have to place the filter boards which are available in shops ,at the bottom and cover it with chips or gravels.The chips should be with in 2 to 4 inch height , and should be filled such that there is a slope .The slope is used for getting the wastes of the fishes on the bed of the filter .These chips are helpful for the plants and the bacteria that lives in aquarium which helps in breaking the wastes of fishes for plants as a manure

Do not use chips with sharp edges as it may cauz cuts in fishes , and try not to use gravels of house building materials.Try to use pebbles from rivers , which will be more attractive .It should be cleaned thoroughly in water so that all dirt should be washed off.

The next part is the filtering and air pumping section .They are having greater importance and they both are different in there works .A filter is used for filtering the wastes into the beds of the filter bed which is placed under the gravels or chips.Air pump is used for pumping oxygen into the tank .

There are two types of filtering sections

• External filtering




• internal filtering
  

Commonly used filtering is internal systems .underground filters can be worked by an air pump or by a power head(its a motor which works similarly like an air pump but it is placed under water where an air pump is placed at top of water ).These internal filters can be attached to the glass walls on side of the aquarium .The external filters is not used for smaller aquariums as it s costlier also they are not required , hence they are used for aquariums for bigger sizes .

"For keeping a aquarium healthy and clean a good filtering system is essential , and for better living of fishes a good air pump is too required "

Now comes the decorative items like DRIFTWOOD , ROCKS and other TOYS, which will make a tank more pleasing .

Driftwood's are woods which we can get from rivers and other water locations which has been lying in water for several years and there skin and all other parts except the hard wood .They are available in different shapes and sizes .We can also place some good looking stones and now a days a variety of toys are available which also can be placed.
FOR BETTER HOLDING OF DRIFTWOOD'S I USED TO DRILL A MARBLE OR GRANITE AND FIX THE BOTTOM OF THE WOOD WITH A SCREW SO THAT IT WILL LOOK GOOD AND PLACE IT WHEN WE FILL CHIPS SO THAT THE MARBLE CANNOT BE SEEN

Next part is the plants which can be natural and plastic.Both of them are better in looking but the natural is a one which help to release oxygen for the fishes by taking carbon di oxide , and they will take the fish wastes as manure .There are different types of plants in shapes and in colour , but some of them need direct sun light and others don't need directly .LIGHTS should be provided with every aquarium for a better colour vision , and more over they helps the plants to grow .There are different tubes available in different lengths and colours like white , blue , green etc, and there are fluorescent tubes too (which produces ultra violet rays).Now a days there are lights available which can be placed inside the water .

So before placing a natural plant inside its decayed leaves should be removed and it should be cleaned .FOR BETTER APPEARANCE OF A TANK KEEP SMALL PLANTS IN FRONT AND THE LENGTHIER PLANTS AT THE BACK OF THE TANK .

FISHES they are the heart of a aquarium.They live in different sections of tank according to the types .Some of them live in tops , middle regions and the other in lower parts.so for a community aquarium we have to select fishes that Will not attack each other .The fishes are grouped according to the sections they live in a tank , they are

• Guppies, Platys,Mollies,Zebra, Tetra etc lives in top .




• Angels, silver sharks, Gold fish , Black more lives in middle.




• Catfish, Sucker and some other sharks lives in bottom .
  

Oscars, cichlids morphs and the one we call lucky fish (Arowana)are not able to keep in a community aquarium.And we also cannot keep two male fighter fishes in a tank as they will fight each other .

Fish feeds are available in aquarium shops , which has to be given twice daily.Remember one thing that more food make your fish unhealthy and the food which is not taken by the fish will decay and the water will easily gets dirty .So always give a pinch of food to them if you are giving food twice a day.

Finches(zebra and white)

Finches are the smallest birds that ever i had in my home .They are about 10cm (4inches)in size.These birds are from Australia and they are wild birds there .There are three types in common white , grey and biscuit coloured.The male birds of grey and biscuit are easy to recognise due to there colour es on the cheek , a orange colour which belongs to males only .other ways to find the male birds is by there sound which is like a song .In males the beaks are more brighter red and in females they are not much .

As these birds are very small the cage net should be small too, and they required a small cage to breed .In my experiences these birds require only 1*1*1sized cage for one pair to breed easily .These birds want to bath every time when they see clean new water , so always keep clean water in bowls which are not deep (as these birds will enter into the water if the heights are big they will drown in water ) twice in a day .

These birds will lay around 2 to 6 eggs and mostly we can have 3 to 4 chicks in average ,if proper care and food is given we can have all 6 of the chicks .It will take 13 to 16 days to hatch .

These birds diets consists of Millet's, boiled eggs, grains.we have to place nesting boxes or small pots having a hole inside the cage .But i prefer coconut shells for getting more healthy chicks .Another important thing about these birds is that they are not much costlier like other finches so every one can have a pair .Always it is better to keep one pair in one cage , that will help the pair to raise the chicks with out much disturbances.

As these birds eggs and chicks are so small they has to be protected from ants and other lizards .

Before keeping any other finches in your home try a pair of these ones and study there breeding and manners , so that it will not make you loose your money by buying a costlier pair of finches like star , long tail etc ,,,.

MY PETS

Hai , my friends i am sairaj p .From my child hood days i seen many pets in my home which is kept by my mom , like love birds, squirrel , parrot and aquarium.so from those days i was dreaming about a farm full of pets ,and still it is my dream .so here in this my blog i want to share with you the birds and animals that i kept as my pets and which i love to have .this is my first attempt to write a blog so any mistakes please forgive me and let me know that mistakes.
The pets i was having were mainly birds cauz they are easy to keep at home , but i liked animals too even though more care is required,the interests in aquarium got only when i was in 9th std , and now i think i can set a good looking aquarium for the home. now i am having 2 ponds which i am keeping my fishes .
